Alexys Ahn (’24), a junior Classical and Mediterranean Studies major at Vanderbilt University, has been named as a Getty Marrow Undergraduate Intern at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles for the summer of 2023. Alexys will work alongside staff to publish and maintain the Art and Archaeology Technical Abstracts (AATA) Online database. AATA Online is a free research database containing abstracts of literature related to the preservation and conservation of material cultural heritage. At present the database contains over 160,000 records related to cultural heritage in all forms including, but not limited to, works of art, architectural heritage, and archaeological sites and materials. Working as a Getty Marrow Undergraduate Intern will grow Alexys’ knowledge of conservation, preservation, archeology, and digital media. Alexys’ interest in this area of research has already been sharpened through her participation in Immersion Vanderbilt where she has worked for two years as part of Syriaca.org under Prof. David Michelson’s supervision. Alexys’ work for Syriaca.org has included training in the digital humanities, metadata curation, and cataloguing of manuscripts from the Middle East and Asia.
