On June 14, 2023, William Potter, Co-editor of The Syriac Gazeteer (http://syriaca.org/geo), will present “Modeling the Complexities of Syriac Manuscripts in the Sinai Manuscripts Digital Library,” a presentation on the forthcoming Sinai Manuscripts Data Portal at the 2023 North American Syriac Symposium. The SMDP will provide a more robust data model for representing manuscript descriptions and for exposing relationships between manuscripts, their codicological parts, their textual contents, the works they embody, and the persons who produced, used, owned, and cared for these objects throughout their histories. The SMDP will allow scholars to better curate descriptive metadata for manuscripts in the Sinai Manuscripts Digital Library, and will facilitate greater access to these descriptions. The Sinai Manuscripts Digital Library and Data Portal are publications of the UCLA Digital Library Program and partner projects for Syriaca.org’s in-progress digital Union Catalogue of Syriac Manuscripts.
